Artist's Statement

Water has always been my sanctuary. Growing up along the California coast in Ventura, I was drawn to the ocean's rhythm-it's quiet power, fluidity, and meditative pull. That connection deepened as I sought out scene places with clear turquoise and emerald waters. As a child, I was gifted an abalone shell. It's iridescent surface-alive with shifting greens, blues, and soft pinks-captivated me. That moment began a lifelong fascination with light, texture, and the beauty found in natural forms.

I explore the intersection of these two forces-water and shell-through abstract seascapes that evoke depth, shimmer, and emotion. I paint intuitively using cold wax medium, oil paint, and pearlescent pigments. My process is both additive and subtractive. Using palette knives, layers are built and carved away, creating a rich tactile surface that shifts depending on the viewer's perspective and lighting.Buffing the surface is integral, imparting a luminous quality echoing an abalone shell.
